Since trenching cables underground is rather labor intensive, bury as many cables as you would ever expect to use! Bury spares in case some varmit nibbles on a wire. It is FAR easier to do it now, than it will be to RE-trench new or additional cables.
I opted to bury the following cables:
- 120 vac - for power supplies, de-icers, future unknown devices that may require it.
I also added a waterproof "Bell" box with a duplex outlet. Ya never know when you might need to run a drill or a weed wacker!
- 12 vdc - 12 volts DC for running the ADS-WS1 controller, LED lighting, low-power single-board computer (Linux).
- 22 gauge, 2-conductor - This is for an Ademco type #39 magnetic switch. There may be valuable equipment inside the Gill box and knowing if/when the Gill door is opened would be nice to know. So this will tie into my home alarm system.
- Cat5 - This cable will be used to pass the RS-232 data from the ADS-WS1 controller back to my Linux PC in the house.
- Cat5 - This cable may be used for a future Ethernet, or may just be used as a spare cable if needed.
